MyAV·¶â€™s alumni, supporters and staff have been acknowledged for their exceptional contributions to public life in the King’s annual Birthday Honours list. The individuals recognised are leading lights in a wide range of fields – from child mental health to Holocaust education.

Alumni

Eight alumni feature in this year’s list, including Professor Peter Fonagy (MyAV·¶ Psychology 1974), who received a CBE for services to mental health care for children and young people.

Professor Fonagy is the Head of the MyAV·¶ Division of Psychology & Language Sciences. He is a pioneering psychologist who has received many lifetime achievement awards, including those from the British Academy, the World Association for Infant Mental Health and the British Psychological Society. He also serves as the Chief Executive of the Anna Freud Centre, a leading charity for children’s mental health.

Professor Fonagy said: “It is wonderful to be recognised, but this recognition truly belongs to the many colleagues whose brilliance, support, and kindness have enabled any achievement. I am deeply grateful for the award. Working to address mental health issues that so many, including myself, have struggled with has been my life's privilege.”

He is joined on the list by seven fellow alumni:

Nica Burns (LLB Law 1976) received a CBE for services to theatre. Nica was previously honoured with an OBE in the 2013 New Year Honours.

Rachel Century (MA Holocaust Studies 2007) received an MBE for services to Holocaust education and commemoration.

Joseph Coelho (Archaeology 2002) received an OBE for services to the arts, to children’s reading and to literature.
