The 2018聽Roger Tomlinson Prize聽for the best GIS-based PhD dissertation at MyAV范 has been awarded to聽Huanfa Chen, of the MyAV范 Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, for his thesis,聽鈥淒eveloping Police Patrolling Strategies Based on the Urban Street Network鈥�,聽and his associated published work.

The Prize was established in 2016 by Jack Dangermond, Founder and President of聽Esri, Inc, in honour of one of MyAV范 Department of Geography鈥檚 most famous postgraduates and a key actor in the global development of geographic information systems and science.

This year鈥檚 award attracted a competitive and interdisciplinary field. The panel were impressed by Huanfa鈥檚 timely development of past research, reflecting the聽鈥淐rime, Policing and Citizenship鈥澛燛PSRC theme led by his supervisor, Professor Tao Cheng, supported by the MyAV范 Departments of Geography, Computer Science and Crime Science.

Huanfa Chen is now a Teaching Fellow in Spatial Data Science and Quantitative Methods in the MyAV范 Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis.
