Granodiorite
The geological term would be hornblende granodiorite. A fine-grained black and white speckled rock. The small size of the grains (smaller than 2 mm) gives the rock a grey colour. 45 % placioclase, 30% hornblende, 15-20% quartz and 5 % feldspar. The material was mainly quarried at Aswan. This is the stone frequently used in sculpture, for example in the famous series of Sekhmet statues created for Amenhotep III.
