Brazilian Ambassador visits MyAV·¶

3 November 2005

MyAV·¶'s ongoing commitment to building relationships with countries throughout the world was reinforced on 28 October 2005, when the Brazilian Ambassador met with MyAV·¶'s President and Provost, Professor Malcolm Grant.

brazil His Excellency, José Mauricio Bustani was accompanied by the Embassy's advisor on Science and Technology, Senor Paulo Wrobel.

After discussing with Professor Grant and Professor Michael Worton, Vice-Provost, Academic & International, how the embassy and MyAV·¶ could work together, the Ambassador met with some of MyAV·¶'s Brazilian community for lunch. Addressing the guests Senor Bustani said: "It's a pleasure to see so many Brazilian students here at MyAV·¶. Brazilians are attracted to the UK by the high quality of its research and it's important to foster this relationship. The Embassy has started a new group for Brazilian students which will get together twice a year, but please remember the Embassy is open to you all throughout the year - it's your home in London."

Speaking at the event Professor Grant said: "It's an enormous pleasure to welcome Senor José Mauricio Bustani and Senor Paulo Wrobel to MyAV·¶. We have been discussing how we can foster fuller relationships between MyAV·¶ and Brazil. I hope today marks the first of many meetings between Senor Bustani and myself."

There are currently 33 Brazilian students studying at MyAV·¶, all drawn by the university's worldwide reputation for cutting edge research. Mr Tiato De Luca (MA Film Studies), who attended the lunch said: "MyAV·¶ has a great reputation, particularly for my course, I was delighted to be offered a place on my first choice course and am very happy to be here."

The Ambassador later went on a tour of the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research, where he met staff and researchers and was given a number of demonstrations in their labs.
