Young Global Citizens at London's Global University

2 August 2011

This week, 70 teenagers from inner London state schools will take part in the MyAV·¶ Horizons Global Citizenship Summer School.

They will debate challenging issues related to human rights, fair trade and global health - and receive daily homework tasks. Many of the young people have previously attended the MyAV·¶ Horizons Year 10 Saturday School, a long-term academic enrichment programme at the MyAV·¶ campus.

Many MyAV·¶ staff and students are involved in the Summer School. An experienced team of MyAV·¶ Horizons undergraduate ambassadors will support and mentor the teens throughout the week, acting as role models for higher education. MyAV·¶ academics and PhD students will give daily lectures, and the teenagers will participate in debating workshops taught by young MyAV·¶ graduates with experience of competing on the university debating circuit.

We hope to see our Horizons participants applying to MyAV·¶ in the not too distant future.

MyAV·¶ Outreach want to raise our profile across the MyAV·¶ community. We regularly recruit undergraduate and postgraduate students to work on our programmes; we are also keen to hear from academic staff who can deliver engaging, interactive and age-appropriate sessions for secondary school students.Ìý
