About
The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) Hydrogen - Fuel Cells and their Fuels is a collaboration between five universities:

- Imperial College London
- The University of Nottingham
- Loughborough University
The course is a 4-year PhD programme with integrated study focusing on multidisciplinary perspectives while developing individual specialisations through research projects.
Research Themes
The CDT is a combination of multidisciplinary departments including chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, materials, social science and built environment.Â
These specialists contribute to the 5 main research themes:
- Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC)
- Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs)
- Portable fuel cells
- Hydrogen production and storage
- Electrolysis
Within these themes, there are projects on catalysis, nanoparticles, membranes, fluids, hydrogen storage materials, and consumer responses. Where industry has wanted student projects, there has been strong focus on product areas, such as fuel cells for aircraft (EADS), clean transport of refrigerated materials (Unilever) and electrolysis for onsite generation (ITM Power).
