MyAV·¶ Health of the Public Humanitarian Scenario Event

On Friday 10 June 2022, MyAV·¶ Health of the Public invited students from across MyAV·¶ to attend a scenario event focusing on the evolving humanitarian situation in Yemen.

UHoP Students
The event was an opportunity for students from different disciplines and levels of study to come together to learn more about the Health of the Public approach, which brings multiple disciplines together to solve today’s greatest public health challenges.

Throughout the day, students worked together in groups to consider how they would plan a health of the public approach for Yemen in 2023. They were given briefings from experts and practitionersÌýbefore considering scenarios including how to prioritise those most in need, how to prioritise key health response activities for people on the move, and, finally, howÌýrealistically they could deliver in Yemen.

The event was led by Dr Maria Kett (Associate Professor in Humanitarianism and Disability) andÌýDr Lisa Guppy (Lecturer in Humanitarian Logistics / Crisis Response).

We had a fantastic line-up of speakers including:

  • Ella Al-Shamahi (Academic and broadcaster)
  • Phil Duloy (FCDO)
  • Prof Graham Hart (Co-Director, MyAV·¶ Health of the Public)
  • Andrew Lamb (Global Field Ready)
  • Victoria Maynard (MyAV·¶ Department of Civil, Environ &Geomatic Eng)
  • Ben Oldfrey (MyAV·¶ Department of Mechanical Engineering)
  • Elias Pavlopoulos (UK-Med)
  • Lisa Reilly (Global Interagency Security Forum)
  • Andy Seal (MyAV·¶ Institute for Global Health)
  • Xand Van Tulleken (Doctor, writer, and TV presenter)
  • Cecilia Vindrola (Rapid Research Evaluation and Appraisal Lab)

Following the event, students had the opportunity to network with each other, and speakers, at an evening reception. We took this opportunity to catch up withÌýZeinab Elbatoul (MSc Global Health student) to hear about her experience of the day:
