Filestore@MyAV·¶ (N: Drive) to Microsoft OneDrive Student Migrations

20 September 2024

As part of our continued efforts to enhance digital services, we will soon be making a MyAV·¶-wide change to the way students store their data on the Filestore@MyAV·¶ service.

Following the completion of staff migrations, we will soon begin migrating all student data from the Filestore@MyAV·¶ (N: Drive) to Microsoft OneDrive. This change will be implemented over the coming months.

Like the offerings of the N: Drive, students will receive a 100GB storage quota and will also benefit from the many features that OneDrive has to offer.

Why are we making this change?

  • Eliminates the need for VPN connectivity to access your files.
  • Enhanced file sharing and collaborative working.
  • Authenticates using your existing MyAV·¶ credentials.
  • Access your files from anywhere, on any device.
  • Easily accessible document versioning history.

What happens during the migration process?

  • N: Drive data is copied to OneDrive in two stages, an initial copy takes place mid-week to migrate the bulk of the data and a final copy takes place on Friday evening to capture any changes made to files since the initial copy.
  • Once the copy is complete, a script processes the files and merges them into the existing folder structure.
  • Access to the N: Drive is then restricted.
  • OneDrive replaces the N: Drive as the primary personal storage solution.

What happens to the N: Drive post-migration?

After migration is complete, the user will be contacted via email to confirm the integrity of the data on OneDrive. They will be given a grace period of 30 days to confirm that all of their data is present. After this period, the original copy of data stored on N: will be permanently deleted.

When will this change happen?

The first batch of student migrations will take place in October 2024 and will continue with a batch running each week until all students have been migrated.

Key Points

  • This change will not impact students that joined MyAV·¶ in the 2024 enrolment.
  • This change does not impact or affect the GroupFolders Shared (S: Drive) offering.
  • The existing N: Drive service will remain available for users with exceptional requirements.
  • Microsoft OneDrive becomes the primary personal storage solution for new and existing students.
