Description

In this 15-credit module students are introduced to the procedures and protocols necessary for laboratory work within the bio-integrated design context. Students conduct an original enquiry-led laboratory based investigation and use literature, measurements and observations to draw conclusions.

The module is focused on developing essential biological knowledge, as well as key skills required for scientific investigation, and formulating best practice for data collection and recording. Key importance will be given to safe working, risk assessment and biocontainment of organisms. Students will also be supported to learn good laboratory practice and trained on key pieces of laboratory equipment.

Additionally, students will be introduced to environmental monitoring, analysis and simulations. The project will be assessed via documentation of laboratory protocols, risk assessments and presentation of results.
