Description
In this module, you will be supported to critically reflect on applications of research into mental health and learn about ways to develop psychological resilience. Engagement with content will be through online/offline activities, readings, and group work, all of which is designed to increase introspection and mental wellbeing. Uniquely, this module will explore how cultural factors have an impact on mental health, its expression and coping methods, and the ways in which this topic has been researched globally. You will also learn about Positive Psychology, a field in psychology that uses empirical evidence to investigate optimal human functioning in order to identify ways in which people can lead a meaningful and fulfilling life. It also aims to increase wellbeing by offering interventions to prevent common mental health difficulties such as depression and anxiety. By the end of the module, you will have had opportunities to explore strategies that can build psychological resilience and evaluate the empirical evidence related to them. You will also be able to discuss and share the diverse factors that impact mental health and how this knowledge can be applied in settings such as education.
