Description

The Energy Systems module provides an interlinked technological, environmental, economics, societal and political view of energy systems that are compatible with the UN’s Sustainable Goal 7 (ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all). The module will encompass the linkages and interactions between the upstream to downstream elements of the full energy system: covering resource extraction, production and trade; upstream processes (power generation, refineries, bio and hydrogen production); energy infrastructures (electricity, natural gas and heat), and major energy demand sectors (industry, commercial, residential, transport). It will encompass the overlapping spatial scales of the energy system’s drivers and outcomes; from individuals through communities, to nations, and to global interactions. It will encompass the overlapping temporal scales of the energy system; from half-hourly operational requirements, through seasonal variability, to capital investments and through to long-term societal change.
