Description

The Gender and Digital Media module provides students with a critical overview of issues, concepts and methodologies relevant to the researching of gender on screen and online. Students begin by exploring and theorising gender on screen, with reference to digital media and screen studies literature on representation, genre, and the gendering of audiences. During the second part of the module students extend this work into an investigation of ‘gender online’, engaging with research literature from Internet Studies to examine gender and online community, intersectionality, diaspora, fandom, sexuality and censorship. Sessions will combine lectures and presentations, seminars, group tasks, discussions, peer support and set readings.
