This module aims to give students an introduction to the study of literature which is written in Old and Middle English, and predates the period of Narrative Texts. By the end of the module students will have an acquaintance with the range and variety of this literature and some fluency in reading it. In addition to completing the chronological range of English literature, this module prepares students for the study of Chaucer in the second year and for the optional medieval modules.
