Description
Standard introduction to psychological research methods for the first year of study of an undergraduate Psychology degree. This module will cover principles of research design and quantitative and qualitative techniques for analyzing data. Ethical considerations that need to be taken into account when conducting research will be covered. Students will be shown how to present data and report research studies. Module aims are to introduce: a) the principles of research design, including the rationale for experimental and correlational approaches in psychological research, b) some quantitative and qualitative methods for studying behaviour, c) basic statistics and procedures to test for associations and differences in quantitative data, d) the tools used to present and summarise results from quantitative and qualitative analyses, e) the practical skills of conducting small scale research studies (experimental, observational, correlational and an interview study), and f) writing up practical report.
