Elderly members of the North London community received gifts of winter bulbs last week, when they were visited by volunteers from MyAV·¶.
More than 100 MyAV·¶ students branched out into volunteering by visiting the Third Age Project in West Euston on 28 October, to distribute winter bulbs in pots. The bulb planting day was arranged by the MyAV·¶ Union Volunteering Services Unit, which set up tables in the North Cloisters and outside the Print Room Café, where students who were walking past could stop and plant bulbs.
The students enjoyed passing the afternoon chatting to elderly people over a cup of tea and plan to come back next year. Members of the Third Age Project, which looks after the over-60s across the Camden borough, said they were touched that MyAV·¶ had thought of them.
The VSU's Junction49 programme, designed to encourage more student volunteering, was supported on the project by MyAV·¶'s Facilities Services Department and contractor Office & General.
On 10 November, the MyAV·¶ Union will hold its Volunteering Fair from 12pm to 3pm in the South Cloisters. Among the charitable organisations in attendance will be the British Heart Foundation, the British Red Cross Society, Médecins du Monde UK and the Metropolitan Police Service. The VSU's Junction49 stall will offer advice on setting up and running your own project.
