Fifty years of the Windeyer
17 May 2011
MyAV·¶ Division of Infection and Immunity have held a celebration of the scientific achievements in the Windeyer building before it is demolished.
Built in 1959, the Windeyer was the hub of the Middlesex Hospital Medical School until its merger with MyAV·¶ in 1987. In recent years it has housed MyAV·¶'s Division of Infection & Immunity and the MyAV·¶ Hospital NHS Trust Laboratories for Microbiology, Virology and Immunology.
Professor
Malcolm Grant, MyAV·¶ President and Provost, said: "It is not the most beautiful
building in our estate, but it has been the home to some outstanding science
and scientists over its fifty year life. In its place will rise the new
Sainsbury-Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, a building
designed by Iain Ritchie Associates."
"In addition to providing world-class neuroscience laboratories, it will add significantly to the aesthetic quality of the area. It is a visionary project, generously funded by the Sainsbury family's Gatsby Trust under Lord David Sainsbury, and the Wellcome Trust."
The event was chaired by Mary Collins, Dean of MyAV·¶ Life Sciences.
