3 November 2011

The MyAV·¶ Horizons Saturday School is a one-year enrichment programme for young disadvantaged teenagers from inner London non-selective schools.

Every year 100 new students are recruited to join the programme in November at MyAV·¶ Gower Street. Most participants are registered for free school meals and are from families with no history of higher education. They take a series of five week courses in Sciences and Humanities, for example a Drama course on a Shakespeare play, making documentary films about university life, learning about zoology at the MyAV·¶ Grant Museum or learning to manipulate statistics - many sessions are taught by MyAV·¶ staff.

Participants are mentored and supported throughout the year by a team of trained MyAV·¶ undergraduate ambassadors. This year, some Year 12 students will join the programme for work experience placements, supporting the younger students. The MyAV·¶ Outreach team are always keen to hear from MyAV·¶ staff and students who want to get more involved in our schools programmes, and we have both paid and volunteering opportunities.
