Spotlight on Sarah Chaytor

13 June 2012

This week the spotlight is on Sarah Chaytor, Head of Public Policy, Office of the Vice-Provost (Research).

Sarah Chaytor

What is your role and what does it involve?

There are two main elements to my role. I work closely with Professor David Price, MyAV·¶ Vice-Provost (Research), on research policy - developing new ideas, responding to policy developments and putting forward MyAV·¶'s view on national research policy.

I am also responsible for leading the MyAV·¶ Public Policy strategy (see where you can also sign up to our mailing list), which is aimed at ensuring that MyAV·¶ research - across all disciplines - has an impact on public policy.

We are seeking to enhance engagement between MyAV·¶ research and policy by building links with policy-makers, developing a better understanding of policy priorities and working to ensure that MyAV·¶ research is informing debate and development.

How long have you been at MyAV·¶ and what was your previous role?

I've been at MyAV·¶ for two and a half years. Previously, I was a Research Fellow at the Russell Group with responsibility for research policy, which involved developing Russell Group position papers and policies on research with input from member institutions (including MyAV·¶).

What working achievement or initiative are you most proud of?

At MyAV·¶, I'm most proud of establishing the MyAV·¶ Public Policy initiative with David Price and other colleagues, which I hope will ensure that MyAV·¶ is achieving its full potential in terms of our research and expertise informing public policy development. Although it's early days, we've started to have an impact and we have ambitious plans for the future!

Previously, as a parliamentary researcher, my proudest achievement was working on a Private Member's Bill to take it through Parliament - now the International Development (Reporting and Transparency) Act.

What is your life like outside MyAV·¶?

I'm originally from West Yorkshire, but now live in north-west London with my husband. I've been in London ever since I came to MyAV·¶ to do my Masters eight years ago. I love reading and cinema and I also enjoy cooking (and eating!)
